February Homeschool Day topic: Destination Hibernation 

Calling all homeschool students! Unicoi offers a unique learning experience for all ages.

Homeschool Day is hosted the First Friday of every month.

February’s lesson will focus on the hibernation habits of animals native to North Georgia. 

After the lesson, a short, optional hike is available. 

Cost is $5 per student.

Activities will take place at the Campground Visitor Center.

If you would like to schedule a lesson for a specific group on a day other than homeschool day:

Our programs provide education on environmental, cultural, recreational and historical resources.

Some educational topics include:

  • Rocks and Minerals
  • Mammals, Animal Habitats, Food Chain
  • Animals of Unicoi
  • Tree Identification and Classification
  • Pioneers and Early Settlers (pioneer tools and butter-making)
  • Creek and Cherokee Indians
  • Owl Pellet Dissection
  • Trout Release
  • Snakes/Reptiles
  • Scavenger Hunt with GPS
  • Lake or Stream Ecology
  • Birds of Prey
  • Gold Panning

Recreational Activities Include:

  • Campfire, stories and S’mores
  • Full beach rental (only mornings)
  • GPS Scavenger Hunt
  • Guided Nature Hike
  • Archery
  • Fly Fishing School
  • Kayak/paddle board rental
  • Slack lining
  • Night Hike

We can cater programs to your group, based on needs and desired topics.

Program fees vary based on program desired, amount of materials needed, length of program and number of participants.
